Fall (in Love) With Matte Makeup

I knew it wasn’t going to be long before the matte makeup caught up to me. In my previous post I talked about matte lips so I figured it was time to take it to the next level and to create a matte eye look. In fact, all the products that I used to create this look are matte in finish. Look at me, ditching all the sparkle and glitter!

Below, I bring to you a quick breakdown of all the products I used.

Matte Makeup (3 of 14)For my face I used Mac Face and Body Foundation in N2, followed by itCosmetics Celebration Foundation Illumination in Light. I used Color Me device to apply both. To brighten up my eyes and cover dark circles (hello 5 hours of sleep!) I dabbed in a little bit of Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer in Vanilla. I contoured my cheeks using Mac Powder Blush in Taupe and to add a little bit of color to my cheeks I applied Mac Powder Blush in Royal Sunset.

Matte Makeup (1 of 14)Matte Makeup (2 of 14)Next- eyes. First, I primed my eyelids using Lorac’s Behind The Scenes eye primer. For the rest of the eye look I used five matte shades from Lorac Pro2 Palette. I started off by applying nude shadow in Buff all over my eyelid and underneath my eyebrow. Next, using peachy Nectar shade I covered the movable part of my eyelid. Using a fluffy shading brush I applied dark purple shade in Plum to the outer 1/3 of my eyelid and into the crease, carefully blending out all the edges. To make the look a little softer I blended a little bit of milk chocolate shade in It Brown above the plum color blending it into the crease. For my lower eyelid, along my lower lashline I used a taupe color in Cool Grey. I finished off the eye look by applying two coats of Maybelline The Falsies waterproof mascara to my upper and lower lashes and a little bit of Loreal Infallible Gel Lacquer Liner in Espresso to my waterlines. Finally, I filled in my eyebrows using Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Powder Duo in Taupe.

Matte Makeup (13 of 14)For the lips I used Maybelline Matte Color Sensational lipstick in Ravishing Rose that I reviewed in my previous post.

Matte Makeup (11 of 14)Here is the complete look. I am a big fan of it. I think it’s a great way to slowly transition into fall and this look is appropriate for any occasion. I was surprised how much I enjoyed the matte finishes of all the products. For a night out, I would probably replace the pink lipstick with a plum shade  for a more edgy look.

What do you think? Do you like this look? Have you tried any matte eyeshadows?

Happy First Day of Fall! Talk to you soon!

I love matte shadows. Viseart Neutral Matte Shadow Palette is my favorite, followed closely behind by IT Cosmetics Naturally Pretty Matte Shadows that comes with a pearl powder to add a little shimmer when I’m in the mood. Very pretty look you created 🙂

Thank you so much! I am trying to explore the matte trend a bit more. I have heard great things about the IT Cosmetics matte palette! Thanks for your recommendations Allison.

I love what you did here! Your eyes look sultry and mysterious! I love matte eyeshadows as shimmers fallout on me. I knoww you love shimmer but how do you manage fall outs? I don’t know if I am doing it wrong but what I do to avoid that is to pat them lightly. I am so jealous of fall season, we got only two seasons here: Sunny and rainy! haha. Take care, Agata!

Thanks Laarni. So shimmery eyeshadows….First of all, make sure you tap the excess eyeshadow on the back of your hand before you apply it to your eyes. Also, sometimes using a sponge applicator helps a lot too. If there is a lot of fallout I’d also leave dabbing in your concealer not before but after you do your eyes, this way the concealer will cover any fallout. And use an eye primer, but you probably do that already. Hope the tips help.

And it sucks you don’t have autumn season, it’s my absolute favorite! But come winter, I am sure I will be jealous of your hot weather 🙂

Luv luv luv! Aaah Im waiting for those Maybelline mattes to show up here. Love that eyelook too. Soo pretty..probably one of my fav eyelooks from you to date ( for me). i never used to love mattes, but then I discovered Ben Nye’s Matte eyeshadow palette …was a game changer for me. I love them now, but love my shimmers too ( for non-work days:) )

Thank you Dee! I really like this look too and I feel like it’s a whole new dimension of makeup for me to explore, which is always fun. I still love satin and shimmer eyeshadows but it’s a nice change for sure!
