Pink or Red- Valentine’s Day Edition

With Valentine’s Day being a few days away, this week my posts are going to be devoted to this holiday. I know many people think it’s cheesy and overmarketed and I do agree. To an extent. I still like Valentine’s Day and although every day should be a celebration of love, I see nothing wrong with devoting one special day to showing your affection to the loved ones with a box of chocolate, red roses or a red lipstick 😉 Valintines Day (13 of 19)

In today’s post I am bringing you a few pink and red products for eyes, lips, nails and cheeks that are perfect to wear on Valentine’s Day.

Valintines Day (17 of 19)Let’s start with red. I picked my favorite red polish, a red lipstick and new lip balm that is just too sweet not to share. The nail polish is from Essie and it’s called She’s Pampered. It’s a beautiful true red shade with a cream finish that applies flawlessly and is opaque in two coats.

For lips I picked my current favorite red lipstick- Mac’s Lady Bug. It’s a yellow tomato shade with a lustre finish. It’s on  a sheerer side but the pigmentation can be easily built up. It feels very comfortable on the lips and it lasts at least 3-4 hours. It’s also very moisturizing and doesn’t emphasize dry lips. I think it’s a very elegant color and it’s a nice alternative for those of us (like me) who are a little scared to wear a full coverage red lip.

The third red product is a Revo lip balm from a LE collection that can be found exclusively at Walgreens. I raved about Revo balms before as in my opinion they are even better than the popular EOS balms. And this particular one comes in the flavor of Chocolate Covered Strawberries. I admit I bought it mostly for the name but it’s absolutely great. Once you take off the cap, the delicious scent of strawberries and chocolate can be detected right away, even before you put in on your lips! Yum! Although the product looks red, it applies as a clear balm.

I know that red is the color of love and is immediately associated with Valentine’s Day but I think that pink shades are even better for this holiday. Pink is girly, feminine and delicate.

Valintines Day (16 of 19)For the nails, I picked an OPI shade in Hey Baby from Gwen Stefani’s collection from last year. It’s my all time favorite nail polish and when I don’t know what shade to wear, I always go for this one. It even traveled with me to Poland last year, survived a little spillage in my luggage but ultimately I was able to save it! It’s a hot pink shade with a cream finish. What’s unique about it is that extremely glossy and doesn’t even require a top coat! If you’re a fan of pink nails, try to hunt this one down.

Valintines Day (14 of 19)For cheeks, I have two choices for you. The first one is from Physician’s Formula and it screams Valentine’s Day due to its cute heart pattern. Happy Booster (it’s supposed to boost your mood, I don’t think a blush can do that, unless looking at the pretty pattern counts!) is a very subtle pink blush with a little bit of shimmer that looks very delicate and natural on the cheeks. I think it’s a great “beginner’s” blush, it’s easy to apply and blend and impossible to overdo.

The second blush is from Milani and it’s a matte baked formula in Delizioso Pink. It’s my favorite drugstore blush although I kind of forgot about it and just recently rekindled my love for it. The blush looks a bit scary in the pan and it is extremely pigmented so it needs to be applied with a very light hand or with a fan brush. It has no glitter or sheen to it so it’s perfect paired with a shimmery eye look and glossy lips!

L to R: Milani Baked Blush in Delizioso Pink, Physician’s Formula Happy Booster Blush.

Speaking of shimmery eyes, I highly recommend the pink L’Oreal Infallible eyeshadow in Pink Sapphire. It’s a loose powder eyeshadow tighlty packed into the pan that applies very easily to the lids, creating a minimal fallout. The finish is gorgeous, with a little bit of sparkle that can be intensified by applying it with a wet brush.

Valintines Day (15 of 19)Last but not least, the lips. Again, another delicious pick from Revo balms. This cute little pink pot is called Pink Frosted Cupcake and it does taste like delicious cupcake frosting. The scent is not as discernible as the Chocolate Covered Strawberries though. Still, a nice little balm to keep in your handbag for when you want to quickly moisturize your lips!

The last pink product is a brand new lipstick from Urban Decay. It’s a Sheer Revolution formula and the shade is called Obsessed. I’d describe the formula as the combination of a lipstick and a lip balm. It is extremely moisturizing, makes your lips hydrated and glossy while providing a decent amount of pigmentation.  The shade itself is described as baby pink with yellow undertones. Love at first sight! A full review coming soon.

L to R: Mac Ladybug Lipstick, Urban Decay Sheer Revolution Lipstick in Obsessed, L’Oreal Infallible eyeshadow in Pink Sapphire.

Here it is-my lip, nail, eye and cheek suggestions for red and pink products to wear for Valentine’s Day. Of course, you can mix and match those two shades to create different looks.

What colors do you prefer to wear for Valentine’s Day? Pinks or reds? Have you tried any products that I mentioned? What else would you add to the Valentine’s Day makeup mix?

Thanks for reading and stay tuned for a Valentine’s Day look coming up later this week.

Hey Agata, GREAT post! So many lovely picks, and the photos are really fun!

I’ll most probably go pink, that is if we do anything at all LOL Every year we start planning the whole thing way too late, so sometimes we end up not going anywhere! I might just cook a nice meal at home tho, that would be a change because I’ve been really busy and making low-effort dinners :p

Thank you Sunny. I had the idea for the photos in my head for a long time so I am glad you like them.

I am not sure what me and my husband are going to do on Sat either, I am afraid, just like you, that by the time we make plans every place will be too crowded. But that’s ok, I am still putting on some pink makeup 🙂

Any good low effort recipes you could share? I am all about home made quick dinners!

I love all your picks, Agata! I don’t know what we are going to do yet this Saturday. We never plan anything! Haha I can’t wait to read your review on the UD Obsessed lipstick! I swatched it at Ulta a few weeks ago and I loved how it feels! Looking forward to your Valentine’s Day look also! <3

    • Agata Piestrak says:

Thanks Jaa! Me and my husband don’t really have any plans at the moment either…We will probably go out to a nice dinner but I am afraid that by the time we make up our minds, everything will be booked and too crowded. The Valentine’s Day look will be up on Friday! Oh and a little spoiler alert- I am a little obsessed with the UD Obsessed lipstick!

Looking forward to your Valentine’s Day look. I generally just go with whatever color my mood demands at the moment, lol. I don’t have a significant other so no major plans for me. But I’m ok with that. I think learning to enjoy being alone can have its upside. Btw, this was a great post! I’ve been meaning to go to Walgreens to pick up one (or a few) Revo lip balms. Chocolate covered strawberries seems to be popular 🙂

    • Agata Piestrak says:

I love your attitude Kishia and your positive thinking and if you get lonely on V Day, just shoot me an email 🙂 Chocolate Covered Strawberries tastes and smells so good, I hope you can find it! There were a few yummy sounding flavors there too!

So many great picks here! I am obsessed with Milani blush – obsessed! I love a red lip, and I’m partial to MAC’s Russian Red. I’ve actually never seen Lady Bug before, but it’s very nice!

    Neon Rattail

    • Agata Piestrak says:

Hi Michelle. I love that blush too! Lady Bug was from the Red Collection. I am a little scared to wear super bold red lips, so this one is perfect!

  5. Kiss & Make-up says:

What a fun post, Agata! I’m getting in the Valentine’s spirit too today, with a nail art 🙂 I love that Happy Booster Blush, it looks super pretty in the pan and the color is gorgeous.

    • Agata Piestrak says:

I loved your heart nail art, I was going to put some hearts on my nails too but there is no way they would turn out as perfect as yours!

That Happy Booster Blush was actually voted the best budget blush on Temptalia!

  6. Xuvious says:

This post is cute! Hope you do a lotd! I’m actually staying in this valentine’s day so I won’t really be doing that much makeup. Btw, I love your new hair! ^_^

    • Agata Piestrak says:

Thank you so much Advaita! I am kind of obsessed with my new hair, I am so happy I took a plunge and cut it!

A LOTD is coming up on Friday!

  7. LindaLibraLoca says:

I ignore Valentines Day, much to Mr. Locas delight, so no special products in my case.
But Reds and Pinks are colors you can wear any day, so Thank you for the inspiration! The only one I have tried so far is the L’ Oreal Infallible Eyeshadow, which I love.

The pictures are the sweetest! Candy hearts!

    • Agata Piestrak says:

Ahh, you just totally made my day (or even a week) by stopping by my blog and commenting!! Thank you. That shade is really pretty, and it feels great on the lips. I love the original UD Revolution lipsticks too- they are more pigmented. You should check them out! I am a little bit partial to pinks myself but a red lipstick is definitely a winner for some special night out or paired with a simple nude eye and a little black dress!

  8. Carla @ Blush Parade says:

    Very nice pics Agata!

We haven’t much planned for Saturday really, we’ll probably stay at home and cook some Chicken Parmigiana. You can’t go wrong with chicken parmigiana!

Mac Ladybug has me curious since a long time ago! I’m not sure if I like sheer reds on my lips though, they are too fine and I feel like I need a lipliner and a little bit of overdrawing to make bold colorus look good on me. I think I’ll give it a try at some point, though!

    • Agata Piestrak says:

Hi Carla. Chicken Parmigiana always sounds yummy! I think we might cook dinner at home too!

Sometimes I use a lip liner with my Lady Bug to make it last longer and look fuller, but I don’t mind the sheerness of it at all! Try it out if you can and let me know what you think!

  9. kpsays says:

Great picks! I have that same Gwen OPI polish! And the Happiness Booster blush. I love the way it smells! I need to check out those Revo balms! The flavors sound amazing! Hope you had a great Valentines Day!

    • Agata Piestrak says:

Don’t you love that Gwen Stefani nail polish?? You should def check the Revo balms, they are awesome and they smell so good that I am better at remembering to put them on.
