With Valentine’s Day being a few days away, this week my posts are going to be devoted to this holiday. I know many people think it’s cheesy and overmarketed and I do agree. To an extent. I still like Valentine’s Day and although every day should be a celebration of love, I see nothing wrong with devoting one special day to showing your affection to the loved ones with a box of chocolate, red roses or a red lipstick 😉
In today’s post I am bringing you a few pink and red products for eyes, lips, nails and cheeks that are perfect to wear on Valentine’s Day.
Let’s start with red. I picked my favorite red polish, a red lipstick and new lip balm that is just too sweet not to share. The nail polish is from Essie and it’s called She’s Pampered. It’s a beautiful true red shade with a cream finish that applies flawlessly and is opaque in two coats.
For lips I picked my current favorite red lipstick- Mac’s Lady Bug. It’s a yellow tomato shade with a lustre finish. It’s on a sheerer side but the pigmentation can be easily built up. It feels very comfortable on the lips and it lasts at least 3-4 hours. It’s also very moisturizing and doesn’t emphasize dry lips. I think it’s a very elegant color and it’s a nice alternative for those of us (like me) who are a little scared to wear a full coverage red lip.
The third red product is a Revo lip balm from a LE collection that can be found exclusively at Walgreens. I raved about Revo balms before as in my opinion they are even better than the popular EOS balms. And this particular one comes in the flavor of Chocolate Covered Strawberries. I admit I bought it mostly for the name but it’s absolutely great. Once you take off the cap, the delicious scent of strawberries and chocolate can be detected right away, even before you put in on your lips! Yum! Although the product looks red, it applies as a clear balm.
I know that red is the color of love and is immediately associated with Valentine’s Day but I think that pink shades are even better for this holiday. Pink is girly, feminine and delicate.
For the nails, I picked an OPI shade in Hey Baby from Gwen Stefani’s collection from last year. It’s my all time favorite nail polish and when I don’t know what shade to wear, I always go for this one. It even traveled with me to Poland last year, survived a little spillage in my luggage but ultimately I was able to save it! It’s a hot pink shade with a cream finish. What’s unique about it is that extremely glossy and doesn’t even require a top coat! If you’re a fan of pink nails, try to hunt this one down.
For cheeks, I have two choices for you. The first one is from Physician’s Formula and it screams Valentine’s Day due to its cute heart pattern. Happy Booster (it’s supposed to boost your mood, I don’t think a blush can do that, unless looking at the pretty pattern counts!) is a very subtle pink blush with a little bit of shimmer that looks very delicate and natural on the cheeks. I think it’s a great “beginner’s” blush, it’s easy to apply and blend and impossible to overdo.
The second blush is from Milani and it’s a matte baked formula in Delizioso Pink. It’s my favorite drugstore blush although I kind of forgot about it and just recently rekindled my love for it. The blush looks a bit scary in the pan and it is extremely pigmented so it needs to be applied with a very light hand or with a fan brush. It has no glitter or sheen to it so it’s perfect paired with a shimmery eye look and glossy lips!
Speaking of shimmery eyes, I highly recommend the pink L’Oreal Infallible eyeshadow in Pink Sapphire. It’s a loose powder eyeshadow tighlty packed into the pan that applies very easily to the lids, creating a minimal fallout. The finish is gorgeous, with a little bit of sparkle that can be intensified by applying it with a wet brush.
Last but not least, the lips. Again, another delicious pick from Revo balms. This cute little pink pot is called Pink Frosted Cupcake and it does taste like delicious cupcake frosting. The scent is not as discernible as the Chocolate Covered Strawberries though. Still, a nice little balm to keep in your handbag for when you want to quickly moisturize your lips!
The last pink product is a brand new lipstick from Urban Decay. It’s a Sheer Revolution formula and the shade is called Obsessed. I’d describe the formula as the combination of a lipstick and a lip balm. It is extremely moisturizing, makes your lips hydrated and glossy while providing a decent amount of pigmentation. The shade itself is described as baby pink with yellow undertones. Love at first sight! A full review coming soon.
Here it is-my lip, nail, eye and cheek suggestions for red and pink products to wear for Valentine’s Day. Of course, you can mix and match those two shades to create different looks.
What colors do you prefer to wear for Valentine’s Day? Pinks or reds? Have you tried any products that I mentioned? What else would you add to the Valentine’s Day makeup mix?
Thanks for reading and stay tuned for a Valentine’s Day look coming up later this week.
