Essie Coat Couture

Matte finish seems to be having its moment in the beauty world. First matte eyeshadows, matte lips and now matte nails. For quite a while I didn’t see the appeal of this trend but I eventually became a convert and I am all about that matte.

Zoya first started the trend of the matte nails with the release of their Matte Collection. Next, Essie released the Cashmere Matte line offering six beautiful shades with a satin matte finish.

Purple Liner (6 of 8)I picked up one of them- Coat Couture which is described as a sultry satin greige beneath deep purple shimmer. It is the most gorgeous shade that is very complex and looks differently depending on the light. It’s purple, grey but then it has green and blue iridescent micro-glitter. The finish is absolutely beautiful and once I painted my nails I couldn’t stop staring at them. The formula applies flawlessly, two coats deliver full opacity. The nails feel very soft to touch. In order to keep the matte finish, there is no need for a top coat.

Purple Liner (8 of 8)However, the polish chips like no other! My manicure normally lasts about a week (when using a top coat) and at least 4-5 days without a top coat. This nail polish was chipping already on the second day and I had to repaint my nails. For comparison,  Zoya’s matte formula lasted a whole week on me without any chipping so I know it’s not just the lack of a top coat causing the issue.

Purple Liner (7 of 8)Is it a deal breaker? No, because I still think Coat Couture is one of the most beautiful shades I have ever worn but I am a little hesitant to spend my money on a different shade from this collection.

Have you tried any shades from the Essie Cashmere Matte collection? Do you like the matte finish on your nails? Would it deter you from buying a nail polish knowing that it chips in 2 days?

I hope everyone has a lovely weekend. What do you have going on?

Same here. Polish chips on me no matter what I do. Let’s wear gloves! lol I love the shade though! It’s something i’d wear too. Anyway, I’ve been loyal to my Caronia gold polish. I am gonna finish it before I buy a new one. hahaha!

Will be a mall rat this Saturday! Have a great weekend, too, Agata! xo

Hi Laarni, I am impressed that you can stick to wearing one nail polish. I am a nail polish junkie and I always keep buying new shades! It’s such an easy way to accessorize!

Hope shopping went well. Did you get anything?

Hi Anne! I agree with you, sometimes it’s a gamble although I have never had any nail polish chip on me that fast. And yes, once my nail chips, I have to repaint it right away or it’s driving me crazy!

How is NZ?? How many more weeks before you’re back??

I love Essie polishes. But sometimes I feel they are too expensive for me to justify purchasing- because I only paint my nails once a month, and they alwaaaaays chip within a few days. So it’s hard for me to want to spend more money on nail polish when I could use that money for makeup, ha!

I feel you, Jenny. Now the price of Essie nail polishes increased and they are $8.50 or $9 a piece but I love nail polish. Before I got into makeup, I was into nail polish a lot and I have probably hundreds of bottles, lol.

Hey Agata, this is such a stunning shade! I absolutely love it and love it on you! So sorry to hear it chips so fast tho. Nail polishes tend to chip real fast on me, so I really don’t know if I should try something that chips faster than average. I mean, imagine painting my nails only to have chips within half a day!

Hi Sunny. The shade is stunning and I am still going to wear it, no matter what! I think next time I will just add a top coat, even though it will ruin the matte effect. But I can’t just deal with having to repaint my nails every two days!

Essie’s are so inconsistent formula wise, bit sad about this one because the colour is really pretty! It’s definitely something I’d wear! 🙂

I don’t care so much for matte nail polishes, because I need a top coat anyway. I just use a matte top coat on top of a normal top coat to create my own mattes.

But, BUT, this collection is so pretty I want all the colours. ALL. Can’t wait to see it at my local Boots, but unfortunately it will probably take time. They are very slow with collections. -.-

Hi Carla. I definitely need to get a matte top coat so I can wear it with any nail polish. But I agree, all the shades in this collection are really pretty. There is a light pink that I can’t stop thinking about…Lol. Hope your Boots gets this collection soon. I am already looking forward to Essie Summer!

i just put this on my nails today. usually i don’t like essie polishes for the chipping, but i’ve had a few hits with them. let’s hope this one works well with me!

I am normally happy with Essie polishes but I always use a top coat. Isn’t this shade gorgeous though? Let me know how long it lasts on you!

I want to buy the entire Cashmere Matte collection, as well as Zoya’s new seasonal transition collection (can’t remember the name – but they are in frosted bottles). I will have to limit it to one or two though 😀

    • Agata Piestrak says:

Ha ha, I want to try the Zoya Satins (I think that’s what they are called) too. This matte and semi-matte formula is just really appealing to me, lol. If you try Essie, let me know if it chipped on you so quickly as on me! Maybe I just had bad luck with this one bottle.
