Matte finish seems to be having its moment in the beauty world. First matte eyeshadows, matte lips and now matte nails. For quite a while I didn’t see the appeal of this trend but I eventually became a convert and I am all about that matte.
Zoya first started the trend of the matte nails with the release of their Matte Collection. Next, Essie released the Cashmere Matte line offering six beautiful shades with a satin matte finish.
I picked up one of them- Coat Couture which is described as a sultry satin greige beneath deep purple shimmer. It is the most gorgeous shade that is very complex and looks differently depending on the light. It’s purple, grey but then it has green and blue iridescent micro-glitter. The finish is absolutely beautiful and once I painted my nails I couldn’t stop staring at them. The formula applies flawlessly, two coats deliver full opacity. The nails feel very soft to touch. In order to keep the matte finish, there is no need for a top coat.
However, the polish chips like no other! My manicure normally lasts about a week (when using a top coat) and at least 4-5 days without a top coat. This nail polish was chipping already on the second day and I had to repaint my nails. For comparison, Zoya’s matte formula lasted a whole week on me without any chipping so I know it’s not just the lack of a top coat causing the issue.
Is it a deal breaker? No, because I still think Coat Couture is one of the most beautiful shades I have ever worn but I am a little hesitant to spend my money on a different shade from this collection.
Have you tried any shades from the Essie Cashmere Matte collection? Do you like the matte finish on your nails? Would it deter you from buying a nail polish knowing that it chips in 2 days?
I hope everyone has a lovely weekend. What do you have going on?
