Lorac Unzipped Gold Palette- Review and Swatches

Neutral eyeshadow palettes never get boring to me. No matter how many of them I have (and trust me, I have a lot!), every new neutral shadow palette release excites me! And it was no different with Lorac’s latest Unzipped Gold palette.

Obsessed (8 of 13)A sequel to a previously released Lorac Unzipped Palette, Unzipped Gold is a warm toned, universally flattering palette consisting of 10 eyeshadows:  3 mattes and 7 shimmery, metallic shades. They are housed in a sturdy carboard box with a pretty pearl yellow gold finish. The palette also comes with a deluxe sample of Behind The Scenes eyeshadow primer.

Obsessed (9 of 13)The majority of the shades deliver the excellent quality and pigmentation that I am used to in Lorac’s palettes. The shimmery shades are buttery, very smooth and although they appear a bit powdery in the pan, they apply like a dream. No fallout, excellent pigmentation in just one swipe. It’s the matte shades that proved a bit disappointing to me.

Below you can read a detailed description of each shade:

Vegas Makeup (12 of 12)

Swatches Top Row, from L to R:Undressed, Uninhibited, Unpredictable, Undeniable, Unedited.

Undressed– is a matte beige with a pink undertone; it applies really smooth, it’s a great color for highlighting the under brow area and the corners of your eyes.

Unihibited– is a shimmery golden beige.

Unpredictable– a beautiful shimmery peach gold, one of my favorite shades in the palette.

Undeniable– a matte milk chocolate brown; when swatched on my hand it hardly delivers any color payoff and it hardly shows up on my eyes.

Unedited– a matte dark brown; again-it looks much more pigmented in the pan than in a swatch; it performs slightly better applied to my eyelids.

Vegas Makeup (11 of 12)

Swatches of the Bottom Row from R to L: Unlocked, Unlimited, Unleashed, Unwind, Unafraid.

Unlocked– a shimmery butter yellow shade, another perfect highlighting shade.

Unlimited– a shimmery true yellow gold with orange undertone.

Unleashed– mettalic copper gold, an absolute favorite in this palette; I could wear it on its own for the rest of my life and never look back.

Unwind– a matte muted brown, hardly any color pay off, similar to Undeniable.

Unafraid– a deep chocolate brown with tiny  speckles of gold glitter, a beautiful transitional color.

Although all the shades are clearly in the same gold color family, they are all very different and versatile and you can create a whole lot of different looks with them. The packaging says that the shimmery shades can be used with a wet brush as well. I do wish the matte shades performed better as they would be perfect crease colors. They are workable, just require more work than I am used to. I still think the palette is a great buy and I have been wearing it almost every day since my husband gifted it to me on Valentine’s Day.

I have no problem with the colors fading, they last on me all day. And for $42.00 it is a palette I’d highly recommend to anyone who loves nude eyeshadows but is looking for something more unique. Unzipped Gold palette is definitely not a boring one and I can’t wait to wear it in the summer paired with a golden bronzer. I think the gold shades will look beautiful reflected by the sun rays.

What is your first impression of the Lorac Unzipped Gold palette? Do you own the original Unzipped palette? Are you a fan of Lorac comsetics in general? Would you like to see a look featuring this palette?

I’ve never own any Lorac palette and probably the only person in the beauty world who doesn’t…it’s a shocker, I know. LOL! This palette is gorgeous though, love your swatches and I’ll be keeping this in mind. I’m a neutral girl all the way so this is definitely right up my alley.

Hi Shireen and welcome to Her and Makeup. I love Lorac palettes, Pro2 palette being my favorite. But this one is right up my alley too. I love neutral eyeshadows but this one has a twist since it’s gold toned and I think it’s really flattering.

If I want to see a look featuring this palette? Yes, of course I do!
You know how I feel about palettes now, so I won’t repeat, but I love the shades. Mattes seem to require more work in general, which is a shame. In my crease is where I would need effortless blendability…

Saying high from Singapore! As my trip is coming to an end, how are your preparations for Vegas going?

    • Agata Piestrak says:

Hi Anne, yes, I do know how you feel about palettes 🙂 I am the opposite. I don’t know what it is about eyeshadow palettes that I am always drawn to them so much. I like that I have a set of shades to pick from that compliement each other so I don’t have to think too hard about what shades to put together. I will definitely do a look with this palette then.

I am kind of glad you’re coming home so we can chat more, lol. My vacation is only 4 days away and I couldn’t be more excited. We are leaving early on a Saturday morning. We booked our hotel, got tickets to see a Cirque de Soleil show, the weather is supposed to be really nice too so it’s gonna be a nice change from the rough winter in Michigan!

This is a lovely palette & I’m a neutral gal all the way :). Wish the matte colors performed better but I do agree that matte colors are the most difficult in general to work with. I wonder if they sell any of these separately, especially the mattes? I’d love to purchase a few. Wonderful husband for such a sweet valentines gift. And yes, we’d love to see the look(s) you created!

    • Agata Piestrak says:

The looks using this palette will be definitely coming up! This palette is really nice to work with. I think I will take it to Vegas with me since it’s not just standard browns and metallic shades will be perfect for Vegas! I don’t think any of the shades are sold separately and honestly I wouldn’t buy any of the mattes from this palette on their own. They are really hard to work with. Have you seen the Too Faced Matte palette is already on Ulta’s website? I can’t wait to see it in person.

      • Kishia says:

No way! How did I miss it?! Heading to the site now. Thanks for the heads up 🙂 Maybe you should do a “what’s in my travel bag?” post before you leave 🙂

        • Agata Piestrak says:

Funny you should say it because it’s already a planned post. It will be up on the blog next Tuesday 🙂

I’d love to see you do a look with this palette, Agata! I passed on this one because I don’t like the way gold eyeshadow looks on me, but I have the original Unzipped and love it bunches! I gifted one to my mom for Christmas!

    • Agata Piestrak says:

I don’t have the original Unzipped palette and this one just looked different enough for me to want it. I like how elegant the golds are. I think the deeper gold shades would actually look good on you but each to their own 🙂

  5. Jaa says:

Of course I’d like to see a look (or two) using this palette! 😀 I have the original Unzipped which I love love love! This one I’m still undecided… it’s a nice palette don’t get me wrong but there seems to be too many golds in it for me. Maybe your looks will convince me that I need it!

    • Agata Piestrak says:

I wouldn’t say this palette is a must, especially if you already have the Unzipped palette. But yeah, maybe my looks will convince you otherwise. I am really happy with this palette and I like that some of the more metallic shades can be worn on their own and still look elegant and glamorous.

  6. Sunny says:

Oh now this is a pretty one! I don’t own anything form Lorac because the brand is unavailable here, but I’ve heard great things about a lot of their products! I don’t wear that much gold anymore for some reason, but I still have a soft spot for the shade 🙂 Would love to see your looks!

  7. Xuvious says:

I love golden/neutral shades and such a great palette. If I didn’t already have the Lorac Pro I’d be very interested in this! Yes, please do a look!! 🙂

    • Agata Piestrak says:

Hi Advaita, I really love this palette and I think it’s actually quite different from the Pro palettes. And yes, look(s) will be coming up shortly!

    • Agata Piestrak says:

Thank you, Lisa! If I looked carefully through my stash I’d probably find similar shades too but it’s just convenient to have all of them in one palette! Do you own the original Unzipped palette?

  8. Lena L says:

Oh, I’d love to see your look with this palette, of course. 🙂
I’d probably go with the original Unzipped for myself, but this one is undoubtedly pretty and well composed!

    • Agata Piestrak says:

Hi Lena, I will definitely create and post some looks using this palette. It has so many possibilities. Do you like wearing gold eyeshadows?

    • Agata Piestrak says:

Hi Natalye, I am glad you like the original one. I think you will love the Gold one too, it’s super pretty!

  9. neversaydiebeauty says:

I adore this palette! I still haven’t written my review as I’ve been too lazy to swatch em all, but I must. I was afraid this would be too glittery for me, but not at all. Love it

  10. collectivebeauty says:

Oh LORAC gets me every time! I just picked up their unzipped cheek palette, and was blown away by their pigmentation. Now, I want this as well lol. I clearly have no control when it comes to pretty shadows! 😀

  11. Carla @ Blush Parade says:

Unpredictable is so, so pretty! *_*

I wish Lorac was easier to get in Europe, I would want to try some of their eyeshadows. But I think I would go either for the Lorac Pro 2 or the original Unzipped. Also, the blush palette looks amazing. Maybe one day I’ll go through the trouble of ordering from the US, lol.

    • Agata Piestrak says:

Hi Carla, I have Lorac Pro2 and it’s amazing. There is an even number of matte shades and shimmery ones and the quality of each and every one of them is amazing! I do hope Lorac ventures out to other countries soon!

  12. kpsays says:

The only Lorac palette I have is the original Pro! Which I LOVE and take with me everywhere! I really need to try out more ! This one looks amazing! Thanks for sharing Agata!

    • Agata Piestrak says:

I don’t have the original Pro palette but I do have Pro 2 and I love it too. I think this gold palette would look gorgeous on you and it would go really well with your complexion!
