Black and white are certainly the most elegant colors I can think of. Those two combined together always come off as professional and put together. However, when I think of makeup black and white are not the colors that come to my mind first or that I reach for very often.

It just happened so that the two products featured in today’s post were purchased by me around the same time and they are white and black. The first one is a Metal Crush Eyeshadow from Kat Von D in the shade Thunderstruck. The second one is a fairly new Mac Cosmetics product- a Spellbinder Shadow in the shade Retrogade.

Thunderstruck and RetrogadeKat Von D’s Metal Crush is a pressed pigment eyeshadow. Thunderstruck is a white, opalescent, metallic shade that has an extremely buttery and gorgeous finish. This product is one of the most popular products from Kat’s line and it’s very hard to find. I actually asked the girls at my local Sephora to order one for me since it’s always out of stock. And, honestly, I am not surprised it is. Thunderstruck is one of the best highlighting shades I have ever tried. It has an easy application, it’s long lasting and it’s just a very complex shade. Depending on the angle and light, it can look white, pink or gold. I am slightly obsessed!

Thunderstruck and RetrogadeLet’s move on to the Mac Spellbinder Shadow. I bought it simply out of curiosity. It’s a loose eyeshadow that contains “ionized pigments that are magnetically charged”. At first sight, the shadow looks like velvet and it has a pretty design. Even after you put a brush or your finger into the shadow pot, the shadow will go back to its previous state thanks to the magnetic pigments. The concept is really unique and really cool. The best part is that it’s not just a gimmick. The quality of the eyeshadow is really good too.

The shade I picked is called Retrogade. It’s a very dark metallic grey color that looks almost black when swatched. It has a fantastic pigmentation so you need to use a really light hand when applying it. Because it is a loose pigment, some fallout is expected but it’s actually not too bad. I like using this eyeshadow over an eyeshadow primer so the pigments stick longer to the lid. Spellbinder wells really well and even after 8 hrs of wear I haven’t noticed any major fading.

SwatchesAlthough Kat Von D’s Metal Crush eyeshadow and Mac’s Spellbinder Shadow are exact opposite in terms of colors, they have a lot in common. They are both pigments, they are very intense, long wearing and easily to apply. Worn together they offer a very elegant and sophisticated look. eye makeup

Since the pictures don’t really do justice in showing how gorgeous these two products are I made a short Boomerang video for you! video

Kat Von D’s Metal Crush Eyeshadow in Thunderstuck retails for $21.00 and (if not sold out) can be purchased at Sephora and Mac Spellbinder Shadows retail for $22.00 and can be found at Mac Cosmetics counters and their website.

Do you ever wear black or white makeup or clothing? Do you agree it’s an elegant combination? Are you a fan of loose and pressed shadow pigments? Do you have any favorites?

      Thank you Michelle!

Black pants are very versatile. My problem is that I love wearing black tops..but with black pants it looks like I am going to a funeral, lol!

What a coincidence, I just wore a black and white outfit last night! 😉 And I also wore a very light silver eyeshadow that looks almost white and black liquid liner.
Your makeup does look very elegant indeed!
