I hope everyone had a great Christmas. I certainly did and I got a ton of beauty related gifts (my family knows me well :)). I know my positing has been sparse recently and I really apologize but there are just so many things going on in my life that sometimes it’s really difficult to find time to write a blogpost and take pictures and make sure it’s done well. I will try to be better next year, I promise!
Anyways, if you know me even just a little bit or if you have been reading my blog for a while, you know that I love anything that’s sparkly and shiny. Nothing too crazy or over the top, just elegant sparkle here and there. And what better time than New Year’s Eve to shine and add some extra sparkle and glitter to your makeup or outfit?
In today’s post I am bringing you 5 different ways and a variety of products to let you shine on the last night of the year.
Starting with eyes- one of my favorite eyeshadow palettes of 2016- Urban Decay’s Moondust Palette. I love this palette because despite being really sparkly it’s really versatile. My favorite way to use it is to apply one of the shades over a matte eyeshadow for a subtle sparkle. But you can also use the shades on its own for a more define glittery look. You can read my full review on Moondust and see swatches here.
For a not-so-subtle sparkly look, I picked up a few NYX Cosmetics loose Face&Body Glitters. I went with the classic shades of silver and gold (and I am actually going to use them to create my New Year’s Eve look this year).
For the face my shiny pick is the Glow Palette from Estee Edit that’s part of The Gritty&Glow Magnetic Eye and Face Palette. It comes with 6 powder shades that can be used on your face or on the eyes. They work perfectly because they are very buttery and they apply very smoothly. A lot of shades work as highlighters but I have been using the darker shades as blushes too. I absolutely love mixing a few of the colors to create my custom color. The quality of the palette is amazing and I am planning on reviewing it in more detail soon!
For the lips my sparkly New Year’s Eve pick is a lip gloss. Not just any lip gloss but a lip gloss that contains a lot of shimmer and glimmer. My favorite product in this category is a Lip Glass from Mac Cosmetics’ Mariah Carey LE collection in Rainbow Interlude. Just look at it! Anything from the dazzling packaging to the lip product itself screams GORGEOUSNESS! I love applying it on top of a lipstick, especially a matte one to add some shine and moisture to my lips.
My long time sparkly gloss favorites are also glosses from Buxom. These 3 are part of the Holiday Edition Set called 6 Degrees Below Sexy Mini Full-On Lips Polish Collection. I like how long they last on the lips and I love their minty scent and a slightly tingly and plumping effect on the lips. The shades that I have been wearing the most are Clair, Dominique and Starr (from L to R). This set is on sale at Ulta and Sephora right now for $24.00.
For the nails, I love Essie’s Luxeffect top coats. They come out in different colors every year. Luxeffects top coats can be worn on their own or they can also be applied over another nail color and although they have a lot of texture to them they last on the nails quite long. Pictured here are gold Luxeffects in Summit of Style and pink Fashion Flares.
I also love the glittery nail polish that I got for Christmas this year. It’s from Charming Charlie and it looks just as pretty on the nails as it does in the bottle.
Lastly, if sparkly makeup is not your thing, it doesn’t mean you cannot shine on New Year’s Eve. Pick a shiny top, a dress or if that’s not your cup of tea- some sparkly jewelry. Honestly, I love wearing my sparkly earrings all year long with a more classic outfit but for the last day of the year it’s almost a must!
Depending on what you like and how much sparkle you can handle, you can concentrate on one or two areas of your makeup and clothing and make it stand out. Combine glittery eyes with a matte lipstick or a sparkly gloss with a matte eyeshadow. Go subtle or go overboard. I think New Year’s Eve is that one night of the year where too much glitter is simply not a thing!
Hope you enjoyed today’s post. Let me know what New Year’s Eve plans you have this year and if you’re going to add a touch (or a whole lot of sparkle) to your makeup and outfit. No matter what you do, I hope you have fun and stay safe and I cannot wait to see you all in 2017!
